You don't want innocents to get gassed? Tell the rest of the populace to not riot. Don't want to get gassed yourself? Stay at home when potential riots could happen. Don't like it? Talk to a riot police officer and ask them how they feel when they have to prevent riots. Ask them what goes through their minds when they have orders to do something and there are a lot of civilians sitting there in the way.
Perhaps they should have sent in all the ACI guys with less-lethal 12ga "behavior modification" rounds (I'm sure we are all pretty good shots by now ). We could have been more discriminating then the police can w/ tear gas, and all we would ask in compensation is FREE PIZZA!!!

The rest of the populace? Only looked like a few buttock-hats doing wrong, meanwhile the cops are chasing away people with cameras threatening a baton upside the head and gassing the rest. A hug is threatening to a cop in a precarious situation, but at the same token doesnt warrant a beat down.

In the 90's we had Clinton in office. We also had Bob Hope and Johnny Cash. Now we have Obama in office and we have no Hope and no Cash...
In Inverness a guy was on a bike. He came to a police woman who had her hand up for traffic to stop, the guy thought it was a high five, so he gave her one.
She then called for car back up, an caught the guy, he was charged much to the dissapoint ment of the whole force, but she insisted he be charged. So now the little harmony the street cops had is now gone. It was a often ocurence with the cops and the public. sad days Now its gone because of mistrust.
For me it was disheartening seeing college kids get cornered and sprayed on their own campus... I cna understand the officers wanting to get the protestors away from the place so they don't cause damage there but they had to know some (if not most) of the people on campus probably belonged there. I think the law enforcement caused more trouble than the anarchists and whatnot they were trying to protect them from.
The use of sound weapons designed for use by the military being used against [seemingly] non-violent protestors wasn't pretty either.
I'm sure this has been argued again and again, but what's the point in the 1st amendment protecting the right to assemble, if they are only allowed to assemble with a permit? It's not like it was written like this...
"Congress shall make no law [...] abridging [...] the right of the people peaceably to assemble, with a permit."
If they feel their rights have been violated they can bring it to the Supreme Court. If you have ever been in a full blown riot before you would know how paranoid everyone can be. The cops are trying to do their jobs to the best of their ability. Not all thoughts make it through. And when you are told to grab people to bring in and they run on a college campus and all of a sudden there are a couple hundred kids staring you down the slightest movement can be that hair trigger that sets everything off. No it is no fun to be caught in the middle of a riot, but the best and ONLY thing you should do is listen to the police if you are close enough. If not you should do what I said and stay inside. If you have ever been in the middle of a riot you would know. Everyone is scared and no one wants anything to happen, but someone always panics and things go wrong. All silent protesting needs is one person there to be an idiot and harass the police and when the police take action all the "silent protesters" start crying, "That's violating our rights! Leave him/her alone!" and that protest is not silent anymore.
Take my advice, either be in a riot or talk to riot police.
I have NOTHING but respect for police.. they take care of the people that we dont' want to.. I work with cops all day.. for the most part I really think they do a GREAT job..
A few clips compiled do not tell the story. Nes media and outlets do not tell the story. I would love to hear from anyone that was actually there before and during the Riot Control set in action. Here is just a few excerpts from Philly.com about what happened. Considering the mass influence of far leftists in PA, i noted the wording of protesters, to anarchists:
Police fired canisters of pepper spray and smoke and rubber bullets at marchers protesting the G-20 summit yesterday after anarchists responded to calls to disperse by rolling trash bins, throwing rocks, and breaking windows.
Seventeen to 19 protesters were arrested, and Mayor Luke Ravenstahl said swift police decisions resulted in minimal property damage. Officials said there were no reports of injuries.
The clashes began after several hundred protesters, many advocating against capitalism, tried to march from an outlying neighborhood toward the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, where the summit is being held.
The protesters clogged streets, banged on drums, and chanted, "Ain't no power like the power of the people, 'cause the power of the people don't stop."
The marchers included small groups of self-described anarchists, some wearing dark clothes and bandannas and carrying black flags. Others wore helmets and safety goggles.
One banner read, "No borders, no banks," and another, "No hope in capitalism." A few minutes into the march, protesters unfurled a large banner reading "NO BAILOUT NO CAPITALISM" with an encircled "A," a recognized sign of anarchists.
